The Particularities of the Latex Orthopedic Pillow

By William

Latex is a popular strong material used in making paint and containers. But now, latex is also an effective pillow material. It was first used simply as a pillow stuffing, but in time, because of the obvious advantages provided by this material – which I will describe later in this article – the innovation evolved, and later on a new technology was developed: latex pillows.

Latex pillows are definitely one good means to achieve a healthy long sleep. These products have gained popularity on the market, reason why today you can find different kinds of such pillows both online and in local stores. One of these popular models is the latex orthopedic pillow.

latex orthopedic pillowWhat makes latex pillows very comfortable? Of course – the physical characteristics of latex. Latex comes from rubber trees.  There are two types of latex: natural and synthetic. Natural latex is taken completely from rubber trees. Synthetic latex, on the other hand, has additional substances like styrene and butadiene. Either of these types is very durable and long lasting.

What people like most about the latex pillow is its fair softness and firmness. Unlike feather or cotton pillows, latex pillows have moderate fluffiness – not too much or too little – just enough. Because of this, orthopedic pillow manufacturers started creating  pillows made of latex. Latex’s firmness can support the body in a more protective and comfortable manner. In order to improve its physical properties, manufacturers also included holes in the pillow, an attribute which enhances its ventilation.

Also, latex pillows are one hundred percent hypoallergenic. Normal pillows contain kingdoms of dust mites and microbes (unless of course, they are washed regularly). But latex does not tolerate the parasitism of these microorganisms. As a result, one does not need to wash these pillows every now and then. Latex also does not disintegrate to particles that can be breathed by the user during his sleep. This means that the user will most likely be able to prevent asthma and allergy attacks while sleeping.

Latex is very flexible as a pillow material. It readily adjusts to the position of the sleeper; therefore, it is able to cradle and support the body and promote a healthier posture. This is the reason why latex is a very good candidate for an orthopedic pillow material. Users of latex orthopedic pillows find better sleep because of several reasons: one, they distribute body weight evenly; and two, the normal S-shaped curvature of the spinal column can be well maintained during sleep. These two factors promote better blood circulation and a pain-free sleeping position. These are also the same reasons why expecting mothers are advised by their physicians to use a latex pregnancy pillow. By using such a cushion, a proper support for their extra weight can be achieved.

Because latex orthopedic pillows are ventilated, they adjust to temperature. They become cool during hot days and warm during cold days. In this way, the user will not feel irritated because he’s sleeping on a warm pillow during a very torrid day, and otherwise.

However, latex pillows are more expensive than normal pillows. But on a good note, acquiring a latex pillow can be considered a wise investment because they are long-lasting as compared to traditional pillows. This way, people can be spared of buying new pillows after every two years.

Latex orthopedic and therapeutic cushions are not difficult to find. They are available in all pillow stores and on a variety of online shopping websites.
